Teaching happens to be one of the noblest professions in the world and yet the world today is faced with a real shortage of good, committed teachers. With the demand for teachers mounting as never before many teaching jobs have opened up throughout the globe. The good news is that the rapid pace of globalization and internet use has led to the rising popularity of e-learning as more and more students prefer to learn from the comfort of their homes, especially those with regular jobs or other commitments.

Conversely, an ever-expanding population of teachers now prefers to deliver lessons at the click of a mouse ensconced in the comfort of the home. In developing countries with poor literacy figures distance or e-learning has benefited adult education enormously. Think about this: isn't knowing how to manage the information delivered on an individually based one-on-one basis better than trying to learn in a noisy, over-crowded (specially in countries with outsized populations) classroom?

Sounds enticing? Do remember, though, that there are some rules that you would need to follow if you wish to become a teacher. First and foremost, you would need to get a degree in teaching. There are several colleges offering good, well-recognized teaching programs. But if you don't want to do that or have little time on hand you could step into the virtual universe (a great way of induction, isn't it?) and take the plunge. There are some great online courses out there leading to a degree and, ultimately, to a great teaching career.

Once you have that degree you can now go looking for that plum teaching job. You would need to begin by deciding what suits your temperament best. There are some people who prefer to teach students at senior levels such as Masters. Depending on your level of competence ' and, of course, confidence ' you can scout around for or locate on the net students desperately seeking your expertise. Be warned though, that such students would also be looking for experienced tutors. Also, their pool is likely to smaller than that comprising, say, high school students.

Schools all over the world have increased their online links to assist with their education. Some of them have even taken to supplementing their lessons with online classes and classrooms. In England, for instance, the City of London has set up the London Grid for Learning (LGFL) linking schools with various organizations to enhance learning.

Now that you are ready to teach you must also remember that your online tools need to be interactive and easily understood by your student or students. You will need to create a conducive learning environment exhorting your students to learn more, quickly, and well. You must also lay down the rules very clearly before you commence on the exercise of teaching. These rules would include assignment work, etiquettes over the net and so on.

Above all, you would need a net connection that keeps itself sustained throughout your interactions. The virtual world can be a great boon if properly utilized.
